Free speech is a tricky subject because everyone has a right to their own opinion, but there is a difference between a speech and a call to action. For instance, people can talk about their ideologies openly, but when their speech turns to a call to action for people to harm others is when it is not protected under the First Amendment. I feel that the government should be allowed to monitor free speech activities, but they should not intervene unless there is an imminent threat. The internet has become an avenue for worldwide communication and is very difficult to monitor. The difference between the internet and technologies such as the telephone, radio, and televisions is the speed at which it has gained massive audiences (Volti, 2017,†¦show more content†¦Many people will argue with this theory and say where does this personal intrusion stop? We have willingly given up our privacy the moment we leave our houses and are videotaped by the cameras on every corner and the mome nt we share everything on social media. I think if you have done nothing wrong or have nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about. Do you think privacy is more important than national security? Technological advances seem to be changing traditional warfare into cyber warfare. With these technological advances, societies have become more reliant on various critical services such as electricity, gas, water, and critical government services which are all run by computers (Volti, 2017, p. 330). It is important to have offensive and defensive cyber capabilities to protect the country and its critical infrastructure. Developing cyber weapons for cyber warfare is unfortunately a necessity in this world. However, I do think that there needs to be a significant amount of restraint when it comes to the use of cyber weapons. Cyber weapons possess a certain ease of use which needs to be pondered before launching offensive or defensive cyberattacks.
